[GN'R Chinese Democracy Tour 2010]

Expectativa, ansiedad, espera. Estaban por dar las once de la noche en el estadio de Vélez colmado por la gente. Había más personas en la platea que asientos para ocupar y en el campo era difícil pensar que podría entrar alguien más. Todos querían lo mismo, volver a escuchar a los Guns N’ Roses. Y el momento más esperado llegó con Chinese Democracy. Después de la primera canción apenas unos segundos de silencio, hasta que sonaron algunos acordes de Welcome to the Jungle, que se hizo desear, que tardó unos segundos en colmar el estadio, pero cuando finalmente apareció Vélez estalló.

Cada miembro de la nueva formación de Guns pudo lucirse: Richard Fortus, Dizzy Reed, DJ Ashba y Bumblefoot hicieron sus respectivos solos y para quienes todavía no los habían escuchado en vivo despejaron todas las dudas. Del disco Chinese Democracy se escucharon varios temas: Sorry, Better y Chinese Democracy, entre otras. Pero sin dudas, los que hicieron vibrar al extremo a las miles de almas en el estadio fueron los éxitos de siempre.

Pasaron casi dos décadas desde la última vez que Axl Rose cantó en un escenario argentino. Lo que hubiera hecho de este regreso algo glorioso era la voz de Axl, por algún motivo se escuchaba muy baja en ciertos momentos, pero alta en otros, como distribuyéndola para que estuviera impecable en los acordes esperados. Aunque en repetidas veces, no llegaba a completar la letra y se escucharon varias quejas de la gente al final del show por la calidad del sonido. Fiel a su estilo, el cantante no se quedó quieto ni un segundo, incluso cuando no tenía letra desaparecía unos segundos del escenario.

El show se vio empañado por los desubicados de siempre. Axl habló tres veces con el público para que dejaran de tirar objetos al escenario. Hasta amenazó con terminar todo antes de cumplir con el setlist. Tal vez alguno recordó aquella vez que en River les tiraron una toallero de cerámica e intentó repitió la misma escena.

No faltaron Mr. Brownstone, Live and Let Die ni You Could be Mine. Como regalo para nuestro público incluyeron Don´t Cry, canción que hace tiempo no tocaban. La avalancha de éxitos llegó con Sweet Child of Mine, November Rain y su clásico cover Knocking on Heavens Door. También cantaron Whole Lotta Rosie -de AC/DC- y The Wall de Pink Floyd ,Nightrain y Madagascar. Y un gran final con Patience y Paradise City, la canción que cierra todos los shows de la nueva formación de los Guns N’ Roses

• Use Your Illusion •

   Los discos Use your Illusion representan un punto de cambio en el sonido de Guns N' Roses. A pesar de no abandonar sus tendencias Hard Rock de su primer álbum Appetite for destruction, Use Your Illusion I demostró, por primera vez elementos de blues, música clásica y country. Por ejemplo el cantante principal Axl Rose toca el piano en varias canciones de los dos discos. Además el tour Use your illusion fue un espectáculo más teatral que de hard rock.

La portada es la misma que la del álbum Use Your Illusion I ,solo que ésta es azul mientras la de Use Your Illusion I es amarilla. Segúns afirmo la banda, "el hecho de que Use Your Illusion II no sea tan heavy como el vol. I No significa que asi lo queriamos, hicimos un sorteo para las canciones".

      La portada es del Fresco de Rafael “La escuela de Atenas”. además de esto presenta incluida la figura de un hombre sentado también presente en Use Your Illusion I

Para la elección del arte de tapa (de Use Your Illusions I y II) existieron alrededor de cien propuestas, de las cuales finalmente se eligió el trabajo de Kevin Reagan, quien trabajó con Wendy Sherman, responsable directa de los dibujos, sobre un cuadro del artista plástico Mark Kostabi. En una oportunidad, W. Axl Rose, durante una de sus tantas visitas a galerías de arte, se vio deslumbrado por una pintura del artista plástico Mark Kostabi. Fue justo en la época en la que Guns N´ Roses se hallaba preparando las grabaciones de su tercer disco. Dado el momento, Rose decidió contactar al artista para proponerle usar su pintura como ilustración del próximo álbum y el título del cuadro -"Use Your Illusions"- como nombre de la placa. Slash recuerda: -"Use Your Illusion es el título de una pintura de algún artista polémico. No sé quién. Nunca he oído hablar de él. No estoy en el círculo del arte. Pero ése es el nombre de una pintura que Axl compró, y dijo, -"hagamos con esto la tapa del álbum"-. Como en la última tapa del álbum, nosotros dijimos apenas -'bien'-, y no hubo ninguna discusión.-" Así fue que Rose se puso en contacto con Kostabi para comentarle la idea, a la cual el artista accedió sin problemas. Al respecto, Mark Kostabi subrayó: -"La banda ya era grande y yo supe que me pondría en otra estratosfera de exposición. Supe que me daría más credibilidad con el público más joven, me sorprendió descubrir que el dueño de 303 Gallery (centro de exposiciones) me mostrase de repente un poco de admiración y respeto."- De esta manera, el cuadro -"Use Your Illusions"- fue adaptado para convertirse en la portada del disco doble que se llamó -"Use Your Illusion I y II"-. Por su parte el artista plástico aseguró: -"Me alegro que mi firma está claramente visible y subsecuentemente que mi pintura sea una interpretación de un detalle de la Escuela de Raphael de Atenas; me abre una puerta personal hacia el aprendizaje sobre la historia del arte."- Esta pintura es parte de un cuadro original titulado -"La Scuola di Atene"- (La Escuela de Atenas), pintado por el artista Raffaello Sanzio, entre 1509-1510.
